CONSTRUCTION - All bridges are made from dressed, joinery quality redwood pine, which is pressure treated for long life. The 'curve' (rise) from end of bridge to middle is approx. 75mm. The main supports are single piece of wood (ex. 225mm x 50mm) - not laminated or pieced together. This gives maximum strength and durability. Upright supports are ex. 75mm x 75mm and are bolted to main supports. Every other fixing is by coated screws of various length, except 50mm x 25mm uprights which are secured with coated ringshank nails. Deck boards used for walkway are redwood pine ex. 125/150mm x 32mm on bridges up to 2.1m and ex. 125/150mm x 38mm on bridges longer than 2.1m.
Each bridge has two inlaid diamonds as standard, but more can be added at £20 each. Bridges have 'bishop' finials as standard, but others including 'ball' and 'acorn' can be fitted at no extra cost.
A special bracing system under the walkway gives each bridge phenomenal strength, and keeps the structure rigid.
The ends of the walkway are designed to accept easy passage of wheeled vehicles, from wheelbarrows and lawnmowers to golf buggies.
The construction methods used ensure that all bridges provide a practical access solution, in addition to being a decorative feature.
LENGTH AND HEIGHT - Bridges of 2.1m and under are approx. 900mm high (including finials), and bridges over 2.1m are approx. 1050mm high. This can be altered to order, but is done as standard to keep dimensions of the bridge in proportion. The size of the inlaid diamond also alters accordingly.
TREATMENT - All bridges are pressure treated light green as standard. Dark brown is available at an additional cost of £25 per bridge. If treated light green, it can be re-treated to change the colour after the 'curing' process has taken place (approx. 6 weeks). Use a spirit based treatment for best results.
FOUNDATIONS REQUIRED - For maximum stability and long life, good foundations at each end of the bridge are essential. Although the bridge structure is very rigid, the foundations need to be level and solid to prevent long term damage from lack of support and subsidence.
Concrete or other permanent material is advised, and the following minimum foundations at each end are required:
750mm walkway = 1000mm x 200mm, 900mm walkway = 1150mm x 200mm, 1200mm walkway = 1450mm x 200mm
DELIVERY - Prices are collected or local delivery (50 miles from Consett - DH8). Nationwide delivery is available and is charged at cost. Please contact us for a quote. Delivery typically takes 3-4 weeks - an estimated lead time can be given at time of order.
Bridges are supplied fully assembled and are therefore very heavy. Larger bridges will have some of the decking walkway sections removed for lighter handling and will need to be fitted once bridge is installed (screws supplied - takes 5 to 10 mins.)
ACCESS TO DELIVERY SITE - Please consider access to your installation site as the maximum bridge width will be approx. 300mm more than the selected walkway width. In cases of inadequate access, the bridge will be left at the nearest point to the installation site (local delivery only). For nationwide delivery, it will be the buyers responsibility to assist unloading and organise movement from drop-off point.
PAYMENT - Unless previously agreed, payment is due in full at time of order. For local deliveries, payment terms can be altered, but will need to be agreed. Please contact us if you wish to discuss this.
